Jurgen Klopp’s side made the trip to Old Trafford on Thursday night, to face off against their fierce rivals Manchester United in the second leg of their Europa League tie. Liverpool had dominated the first leg at Anfield and went into the game with a two-goal cushion knowing that a draw would be enough to push them through. It would have been tough for the Red Devils to respond after such a defeat, yet they started the game off positively and manager Louis van Gaal would have been happy with what he saw. The hosts took the lead in the 32 minute, as Anthony Martial was brought down in the box by Clyne and he stepped up to open the scoring for his side, making it 2-1 on aggregate. However, that did not last long as Brazilian Philippe Coutinho delivered once again in a big match situation, as he equalized for the Merseyside club just on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-1 overall, with United needing 3 goals to go through in the remaining 45 minutes.
There were no more goals in the second period, as both sides looked to push for a win. Chances were created and wasted and it was eventually a goalless half. The two teams were held to a draw on the night as they tried to win the match though the visitors eventually went through to the next round of the cup competition.
Here is what the fans had to say on Twitter after this result with some United fans angry, while others sarcastic at the decisions made by Van Gaal though the Liverpool fans were just happy:

One thing about Man Utd, post-Ferguson, is that at least they are reliable. 100% they will fold under pressure and lose #ManUVsLiverpool

The futile logic of substituting two defenders when you need to attack. What tactic is LVG applying? #ManUVsLiverpool #ManUtd Well won @LFC

@MUFC_today I reckon if Moyes had been given the funds and backing that Van Gaal has he would have succeeded. LVG is just clueless.

@MUFC_today LVG & sadly most players not good enough. Only players worth keeping? De Gea, Smalling, Martial & a few kids. The rest – dross
