News broke late on Thursday that Steven Gerrard, who has been a one man club for his entire playing career would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. Gerrard, who came within a whisker of winning the title last season with Liverpool was in his final year of his contract and although he was offered an extension by Liverpool in November, the Englishman has decided to search for greener pastures, ending his nearly 26 year association with Liverpool.
Within minutes of the news breaking and Gerrard’s conference on Friday, social media exploded with tributes to the player from ex-players, commentators and football fans, we here present just a few of the hundreds or thousands of tweets praising the playing career of Gerrard for Liverpool.
