Twitter War Between Chelsea And Man City Fans: Did David Luiz Foul Aguero??
Dec 3, 2016 at 11:00 PM
The build-up to Manchester City’s Premier League clash was all about managers Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte, but the big talking point of the match was an incident involving Sergio Aguero and David Luiz.
On the half-hour mark, Cesar Azpilicueta miscued a pass to teammate Luiz and Aguero pounced, only to collide into Luiz and go down as he tried to sprint past the Brazil defender and go clean through on goal.
City’s players and fans inside the Etihad Stadium appealed vehemently to referee Anthony Taylor, but the official let play continue as Luiz nonchalantly passed the ball out of defence to start a Chelsea counter-attack.
Reaction to the incident on Twitter was as calm and measured as you might expect:
30. Uproar at the Etihad as Luiz looked to have deliberately blocked Aguero’s path to goal but Anthony Taylor isn’t interested! (0-0) #mcfc

David Luiz seems to have taken Aguero out there with one of those David Luiz fouls. Clever, but obvious at the same time.

At one end City want a foul after David Luiz bodychecked Aguero, at the other we head a corner wide. #MCICHE

City will rightly feel he should’ve gone for that. As for #CFC, it’s that ‘nous’ they missed so much last season.

Thierry Henry: “Everyone can see what David Luiz is trying to do. People call it a professional foul but he knows exactly what he’s doing.” pic.twitter.com/K5fSCILpd9

Taylor has completely bottled that. Luiz blocked off Aguero and that was a clear red card.

That was the ultimate in gamesmanship from Aguero. Replay shows he charged into Luiz, then demanded the foul. Dirty business.

Hands up if you’ve handed your duties over to David Luiz for the day. pic.twitter.com/AU4v2zHiwT

Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Luiz provides great value.
