Fenerbahce piled more misery on Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United as the Turkish giants defeated the woeful Red Devils by 2-1 to take the top spot in Group A and leave the English outfit in danger of Europa League elimination.
The home team started the proceedings in the best possible way when their striker Moussa Sow found the back of the net within 65 seconds with a world class overhead kick. United were dominating the possession but failed to create any danger in the opposition’s half. Their night became even more painful when Paul Pogba went off with a leg injury inside half hour. Any hopes of making a comeback were looking bleak after Jeremain doubled Fenerbahce’s lead with a brilliant curled free-kick just before the hour mark.
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney scored a stunning goal from 25 yards in the 89th minute but it was too late for a comeback as the hosts held on to register a memorable victory.
The second defeat in four games means United are third in their group- one point behind leaders Feyenoord and Fenerbahce – with two games left.
As expected, United fans were left furious with another dismal performance from Jose Mourinho’s men and took to Twitter to express their frustration:
You can't deny United are progressing under Mourinho. That goal came ages after Pedro's.

Coincidence that Pogba gets injured during the same week they announce Vine is getting shut down.

Pogba injured, Herrera suspended. Schweinsteiger will be captain soon if he hangs around long enough.

Man United are stuck in a malaise. Two goals in four games – despite 71 shots and loads of possession. Worrying loss tonight. #mufc

One decent goal from otherwise poor Rooney…that's the only positive. Even de Gea out of form but who wouldn't be behind that defence?
