Two European Giants In Bidding War For Man United Attacker, January Exit Confirmed!!

Jose Mourinho might be five months into his reign as Manchester United manager, but it is probably fair to say that he hasn’t yet settled on his preferred starting XI.

However, whilst the likes of Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick have found themselves in and out of the side on a weekly basis, there are some players whose futures look almost certain to lie away from Old Trafford.

Dutch winger Memphis Depay looks to be one of them having managed just one start this season.  However, whilst Mourinho is apparently willing to let the 22-year-old leave on loan in January, the Red Devils manager will only do so on one condition.

Depay has been the subject of interest from Everton in recent weeks, with Toffees boss Ronald Koeman thought to be keen on bringing the pacy wide man to Goodison Park for the second half of the 2015/16 season.

With Depay so far down the pecking order at United – his only start under Mourinho came against Northampton in the EFL Cup – you’d think Everton would have a pretty good chance of getting the deal over the line.

However, the prospects of the Dutchman heading to Merseyside – or, indeed, any other Premier League club – appear very unlikely according to a report in the Mirror today.

Per the newspaper, whilst Mourinho is happy to let Depay leave on loan at the start of 2017, the United boss will only sanction a deal with a foreign club.

Clearly, although Mourinho might not rate 2015’s £25 million signing enough to give him minutes at Old Trafford, he doesn’t want to risk a scenario where Depay finds his form at a Premier League rival and, potentially, harms United’s own campaign in the process.

The fact that Everton and Manchester United are currently level on points (18) in the league is probably also a factor.

Mourinho’s unwillingness to see Depay playing his football elsewhere in England’s top flight shouldn’t stop the former PSV Eindhoven star linking up with a new club in 2017, however.

Again per the Mirror, Turkish rivals Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are both said to be keen on bringing in Depay on loan when the January transfer window opens.

Moreover, the Dutchman’s impressive brace whilst on international duty this week will likely have caught the attention of other clubs across Europe, too.

Only time will tell where Depay ends up in two months time. One this is looking increasingly clear, though, it doesn’t look like it will be as part of Mourinho’s first team plans.
