Two United Players In Trouble, Angry Mourinho To A Take Harsh Decision Despite Swansea Win

Manchester United eased the pressure on Jose Mourinho with a 3-1 win at Swansea on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils are heading back to the north-west with three points, courtesy of a goal from Paul Pogba and a Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace.

All that was achieved without Mourinho on the touchline, the Portuguese forced to sit in the stands as he’s serving a one-game ban.

Yet, why would he worry about his own actions when he has a chance to lay into his own players.

Mourinho’s already shown he’s not afraid to call people out when he thinks they’ve let him down, and that wasn’t about to change just because United had won.

Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw both pulled out of the match-day squad through injury and illness respectively, leaving Mourinho rather short at the back. The fact he resorted to playing Phil Jones (remember him?) tells you everything you need to know.

If the duo were expecting any sympathy from their manager, they certainly didn’t get it, and instead he insisted they need to “man up”.

“We have players with problems but we have on the pitch players with problems,” he said, per the Mirror.

“I know in other sports – at the highest level – how many times you play and you are not 100 per cent.

“I have a friend who is a big tennis player and he remembers more the times he played with pain than the times he played without any pain.

“To compete you have to go to the limits. It’s a cultural thing for some. That is not my culture.”

Asked whether Smalling and Shaw specifically needed to change their mentality, he added:

“Exactly. More for Manchester United than for me.

“Smalling doesn’t feel that he can play 100 per cent with his pain.

“Shaw told me this morning that he wasn’t in the condition to play, so we had to build a defensive line.”

This isn’t the first time he’s called out Shaw, as he singled out the left-back for criticism in September’s defeat to Watford.

It’s just another sign that the pressure’s still getting to him with United sixth in the table, and he’s taking no prisoners as he aims to get them back challenging for the title again.
