Ultimate XI of players from Europe who missed out on a place in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or
One of the biggest individual honors in the world of football, the Ballon d’Or, has been dominated by the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the last few years bit this time around there are a few players who can compete for the prize that will be announced at the start of the next year.
The likes of Antoine Griezmann, Gareth Bale, and Neymar Jr have also made the list from Europe while the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Dimitri Payet are on the 30-man shortlist for the award from the Premier League.
But there are a number of players who missed on a place on the list and here is the ultimate XI that missed out on a place on this shortlist:
David de Gea (Manchester United):
The unsung hero for the Old Trafford outfit, De Gea, is easily their best player in the last couple of seasons and is unlucky to not be named in the shortlist for this award.
Dani Alves (Juventus):
Having helped Barcelona to yet another La Liga title, Dani Alves, was yet against effective in La Liga and also in Europe for the Catalan giant but missed out on a place in this list.
Thiago Silva (PSG):
Arguably the best defender in France, Thiago Silva, has been consistent at the back for PSG for a long time now but his troubles could not find him a place in this shortlist.
Gerard Pique (Barcelona):
The heart of the Barcelona defense, Pique, is easily one of the best defenders in the world at the moment and though he had a few mediocre games, deserves to be on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or.
Marcelo (Real Madrid):
One of the biggest surprises on the list was the absence of the best left-back in Europe at the moment in Marcelo. The Brazilian will feel hard done by to not find a place in this list.
N Golo Kante (Chelsea):
After helping Leicester City to the Premier League title, Kante also produced an impressive performance for France in the Euro 2016 earlier this year but missed out on a place in this list.
Sergio Busquets (Barcelona):
Another shocker on the list is the absence of Sergio Busquets, one of the most consistent players in his position. He will ask himself what more he has to do to get into the shortlist.
Angel di Maria (PSG):
The Argentine has been in sublime form for the French Champions as he helped him to another domestic title but unfortunately missed out on a place on this shortlist.
Mesut Ozil (Arsenal):
One of the best players in the Premier League in the previous season, Mesut Ozil, failed to win any kind of silverware last season and is not a part of this shortlist for the Ballon d’Or.
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal):
The Chilean is one of the most consistent players in Europe at the moment and it is a shame that he could not get on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or this year.
Karim Benzema (Real Madrid):
Though producing some incredible numbers, Benzema, is still not regarded as a top class striker by many and is not a part of the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or.
