Unbelievable Xhaka stats prove Arsenal finally have found their new viera 1

How Arsenal fans have longed for some aggression in their side since the departure of Patrick Vieira all the way back in 2005.

The former Gunners captain’s hot-headedness was much loved at Highbury and was seen as a big part of what made him the great player he was.

Now in Granit Xhaka, Arsenal fans may finally have a replacement to fill that Vieira-shaped hole, not only on the pitch but in their hearts.

The Switzerland international showed that aggression with a crunching tackle on former Manchester United winger Nani as his side took on Portugal in their World Cup qualifier, and promptly received his marching orders.

XHAKA RED CARD RECORDS

2016/17 – 1

2015/16 – 3

2014/15 – 2

2013/14 – 1

Incredibly, this made it seven red cards since April 2014 for the 23-year-old, three of which came for Borussia Monchengladbach last season.

Only two players made more fouls than Xhaka in the Bundesliga last season, so it’s easy to see why he’s been picking up the cards at a rate Vieira himself would be proud of.

Opposition fans won’t like it too much, but many Gooners are longing for the days when they were a bit more hated by their rivals for showing that bit more anger on the pitch.

If Xhaka carries on like this, he’ll be very popular indeed.
