There’s no doubt that Shaun Goater’s elevation to one of the most adored Manchester City players of all time came completely out of the blue, yet his goalscoring record for the Citizens suggests that he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame based on his statistics alone.

The Bermudan striker arrived at Maine Road in 1998, just before the club dropped down to the third tier of English football. Goater remained a Citizen as they made it all the way back to the Premier League, before immediately going back down and then up again.

His loyalty to the cause was matched by his prolific nature in front of the goal, he racked up 103 goals in 189 appearances (and especially loved scoring against Manchester United) and was coined with the phrase “feed the goat and he will score”.
