- Francis Benali

Regularly sporting an impressive moustache, “Franny” Benali is still a living legend amongst Southampton fans and mentioned in the same breath as players like Matt Le Tissier and Jason Dodd.
Yet, the left back did not really possess the qualities of a fans’ favourite. He rarely ventured forward into the opposing half, his distribution was regularly off target and he scored many more own goals than the solitary strike he managed in 16 years with the Saints.
Benali had passion though and he was handed an FA Cup runners-up medal in 2003 by the club despite not being a part of the final, which pretty much sums up the relationship that Benali had with Southampton.
