US Women's National Team Wins The Women's World Cup 2019 1

US defeated Netherlands 2-0 to win their second consecutive Women’s World Cup.

US Women’s national team became world champions for the fourth time and second time consecutively, as they see off Netherlands 2-0 in Lyon, France. USWNT manager, Jill Ellis becomes the first manager ever to win the World Cup twice.

Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle scored from the US side, with both goals coming in the second half. The first half saw US fiercely attacking but the Netherlands defence just being able to keep the ball from the goal. Netherlands goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal pulled out some amazing saves and looked to be an unbreakable wall in the final.

Just before halftime, American right back Kalley O’Hara and Dutch attacker Lieke Martens collided in the air, bumping heads. Martens was able to continue, but O’Hara had to leave the match, and was replaced by Ali Krieger at halftime.

The second half saw US earning a penalty from a foul on Alex Morgan in the box. The penalty was given by a VAR review, which was converted by Megan Rapinioe to give the US a deserved lead.

The goal was Megan’s 50th goal for the US National team.Only 8 minutes later US’ lead was extended with a splendid solo goal from Rose Lavelle. She carried the ball from near midfield and after dribbling past a few Dutch players took a magnificent shot with her left foot to make the score 2-0.

Megan Rapinoe who played her 4th World Cup seemed joyous and said  “It’s surreal, “I don’t know how to feel. It’s ridiculous.”

Rapinoe was awarded the golden boot with 6 goals and 3 assists and was also given the golden ball; naming her the best player of the tournament.
