Louis Van Gaal held a meeting with Manchester United’s owners and Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward to discuss United’s summer transfer targets. The meeting also clarified the stance on Van Gaal’s long-term stay at United.

It is being reported that the meeting between Van Gaal and United chiefs went till 3 AM after United’s win over Burnley earlier in February.

Reports suggest that, Van Gaal has demanded 4 signings to be completed in the summer and he will take United to the top of the league once again. 4 names discussed in the meeting were Kevin Strootman, Ilkay Gundogan, Mats Hummels and Kevin De Bruyne costing over £120 million in total.

Strootman, Gundogan and Hummels have been the long-term targets for United but De Bruyne is the latest to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford. Ironically, since that meeting De Bruyne has been quite vocal about his exit from the club.

The £30 million rated playmaker has suggested that he will be open to a big move to Premier League. De Bruyne’s remarks certainly will tempt United to submit a bid when next transfer window arrives.

Kevin Strootman’s name will have to be re-considered by the club as he has suffered an unsuccessful operation to his knee which has been troubling him for a while. Strootman’s replacement could be Juventus pair Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba.

Van Gaal’s future at the club was another major point of discussion in the meeting. It is believed that United chiefs are impressed with the work the Dutchman is doing at the club is set to extend his stay at the club till 2020, giving him full 5 seasons to take United at top of the English of European football again.

Manchester United are currently 3rd in the league after a 2-0 win over Sunderland courtesy goals for Wayne Rooney.
