Manchester United saw off Cambridge United with a 3-0 victory courtesy goals from Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo and James Wilson to move in to the 5th round of the FA Cup. After the victory Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal was in buyont mood as he virtually Tipped United to go on and win this season’s FA Cup.
Speaking with MUTV, Van Gaal made it quite clear about how he feels United can go on and win their first FA Cup in 11 years. Van Gaal Said:
“We have a real chance now,” the United boss said.
“Why? Because we are the highest-qualified team in the FA Cup.”
“I am not a casino man,” the Dutchman added.
“But of course I think the highest-qualified teams have more possibilities to win than lower-qualified teams
“May be people are betting on us. I am not allowed to (but) I give you a tip.”
Van Gaal has had a rich history of doing well in cup competitions in his previous reigns as manager at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Van Gaal won the “Copa del Rey” with Barcelona, “KNVB Cup” with Ajax and the “DFB Pokal” with Bayern Munich. Van Gaal went to add to his post-match interview saying:
“For the club, the fans, the coach and my staff, we want to win a title this year and the biggest chance is the FA Cup,” Van Gaal said.
“For me, personally, I won always a title in my first year everywhere I worked.”
Such confidence coming directly from the manager must inspire the United stars to win their first FA Cup trophy as a group of individuals. Among the current United stars only Juan Mata and Robin Van Persie have previously tasted FA Cup success with Chelsea and Arsenal repsectively. Not even Wayne Rooney has won this prestigious trophy.
This could be the year for Manchester United with Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham already kncoked out only Arsenal and Liverpool pose a threat to United’s first FA Cup success in 11 seasons. United are 10 points shy of the league leaders Chelsea in the Premier League and are not featuring in Champions League or Capital One Cup. Realistically, FA Cup is the only chance for United players and fans to enjoy some silverware this season.
