1. Liverpool 2-0 Arsenal, 26 May 1989:

Arguably the most important clash between these two great rivals. Going into the final match of the 1988-89 season, both Liverpool and Arsenal were in a position of winning the First Division. Arsenal had to do the herculean task of defeating a legendary Liverpool side boasting the likes of Ian Rush, John Barnes and Alan Hansen by a margin of at least 2 goals to win the title on goal difference.  Meanwhile, the hosts were in brilliant form. Prior to the match a remarkable 24-match unbeaten run saw Liverpool closing a huge 19-point gap on the gunners. Already FA Cup winners, the Merseyside club thrashed West Ham 5-1 in their penultimate match, leaving them three points clear at the top. The visitors took the lead early in the second half. With the scoring remaining same going into the final minutes, Liverpool were all set to win another title only to see  Michael Thomas scoring a dramatic last minute goal to give Arsenal their ninth First Division title.
