Thierry Henry couldn’t turn down the opportunity to become Belgium’s assistant manager after being asked by Roberto Martinez back in August.

The retired French striker, who had previously worked with the youngsters at Arsenal, was on the lookout for coaching opportunities.

Working as the assistant manager of the Belgian national team allows the 39-year-old to continue in his role as a pundit for Sky Sports – much like Gary Neville used to operate during his time working as a coach in Roy Hodgson’s England setup.

Henry now finds himself working with some top talent, including Romelu Lukaku, Yannick Carrasco, Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard.

Courtois and Hazard were asked about Henry during an interview with Chelsea’s TV channel earlier this week – and the latter couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a cheeky dig at Arsenal.

Presenter: “Michy Batshuayi said ‘I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to my parents, like I’ve listened to Thierry Henry’. What’s it like working with him?”

Hazard: “Maybe it’s true. It’s a pleasure to work with a guy like him – a legend. Not in the best club, of course, but he’s a legend and it’s good to have him on the team.”

Hazard endured a disastrous 2015-16 campaign but has shown signs over the past few weeks that he’s getting back to his world-class best.

However, he will need to improve his productivity – in terms of goals and assists – if he’s to prove that he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Gareth Bale, Neymar and Antoine Griezmann.

Three goals and one assist, for a player of Hazard’s immense quality, is an average return.
