Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is once again in the limelight for all the wrong reasons as he threw a punch at his opponent while playing for Boca Juniors.

One way or another, Rojo always finds a way to get involved in a physical altercation on a football pitch. Last year too, he had grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons after punching a security guard and wielding a fire extinguisher in a shocking tunnel fight after Boca Juniors’ Copa Libertadores exit.

The Argentine side were dumped out of the quarter-finals on penalties against Atletico Mineiro before the fight broke out in the tunnel after full-time. But unlike last time, Rojo did not wait for the match to end on Sunday (July 17) as he punched his opponent on the field.

The incident took place when Boca Juniors were playing against Talleres Cordoba in the Argentine Primera Division. In the 26th minute of the match, Boca Juniors were awarded a corner kick.

And in an attempt to get ahead of his marker, Rojo decided to throw punch at him. The punch landed right at the opponent’s face as Rojo went ahead of him. Surprisingly, he did not face any repercussion for his action that demanded at least a yellow card.

Here is a clip of the incident involving Marcos Rojo:

As far as the game is concerned, Marco Rojo had the last laugh as he scored the only goal of the match by converting the penalty kick in the 80th minute. It was a much needed win for Boca Juniors who had entered the game after losing 4 of their first 7 games.

Marcos Rojo’s career at Manchester United:

Marcos Rojo left United last year after seven forgettable years at the Old Trafford. He had signed up for the Premier League giants in 2014 when Louis van Gaal bought him from Sporting Lisbon.

Rojo featured consistently under Van Gaal as well as his successor Jose Mourinho before injuries derailed his United career. He did get a new contract in 2018 but his career never took off at Old Trafford.
