Wrexham extended their winning streak in The Soccer Tournament by defeating US Women 12-0. Lee Trundle, who played at the Racecourse 20 years ago as well as periods at Swansea, Leeds, and more recently a number of Welsh League clubs, scored four goals in the game after going goalless in Wrexham’s first game, a 3-2 win against Como.
Despite the final result, the US Women’s team was mostly made up of former USWNT players, with uncapped goalkeeper Lindsey Harris standing out for a sequence of impressive saves. However, it was former FIFA Women’s World Cup winner Heather O’Reilly who caught the attention by hilariously calling out Wrexham owners, the Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds And Rob McElhenney prior to the kick-off.
‘Your team about to go down’ – former World Cup champion sends message to Wrexham owners
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have received a great deal of attention in the football world. Both have been in the spotlight recently for their achievements with Wrexham. The actors have treated the team in the most caring and thoughtful manner like other clubs would only dream of – from signing players to lavishing cash on stadium renovations.
Reynolds and McElhenney had already enrolled for a one-of-a-kind football event. They were competing against 31 other seven-a-side teams in North Carolina, with the owners enrolling in Wrexham’s squad for the competition. Unfortunately, both were unable to attend the pitch.
However, Heather O’Reilly, a former FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, was not pleased with the absence of the Hollywood stars. The former USWNT standout was in action with her squad against Wrexham. And, shortly before the match, she delivered a direct message to Reynolds and McElhenney. The USWNT veteran exclaimed:
“This message is for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. One, you should be here right now with your squad. Two, your team, about to go down in North Carolina. Let’s go. Let’s go, USA.”

It was, indeed, a forceful message for both owners. Furthermore, it was an ultimatum for Wrexham before to the game. Reynolds and McElhenney had to have received the message clearly. Unfortunately, O’Reilly’s message backfired as her team was thrashed 12-0!
O’Reilly’s message was powerful, but it fell short of its goal of destabilising Wrexham. Instead, the Red Dragons responded on behalf of their owner. Wrexham hammered the US ladies 12-0. They lost their first game to Say Word and are therefore unable to advance to the tournament’s knockout round with one game remaining.
Heather O’Reilly, who guided the USWNT to a World Cup title and three Olympic gold medals, remained positive despite the outcome. The Soccer Tournament, inspired by the popularity of The Basketball Tournament, is a seven-a-side competition in which 32 teams participate in a World Cup-style event in North Carolina. The winning club will get $1 million, with stars like Cesc Fabregas, Carlton Cole, and NBA icon Steve Nash on the rosters.
