Wayne Rooney reveals his only Regret from the win against Liverpool
Manchester United fans walking away from Anfield may not regret a lot from the great victory against their fiercest rival on Sunday. Their only regret would have been the late penalty miss from Wayne Rooney. The English captain’s drought at Anfield has crossed 10 years.
Also scoring the third goal at Anfield would have been the icing in the cake for the fans as it would have been a sweet revenge to Liverpool scoring three at Old Trafford last year. But, not to be as Simon Mignolet easily dealt with Rooney’s mediocre penalty.
After the match, Rooney also seemed to suggest that perhaps he could have let Juan Mata take the penalty to complete his hat-trick. Not many players would have returned from Anfield with a hat-trick, but Rooney was more determined to end his Anfield drought, hence he took the penalty ahead of Mata, but failed to convert the spot-kick.
The 29-year-old who has scored 18 of 26 Premier League penalties heaped praise on Juan Mata’s performance in twitter. “Big big result,” he wrote on Twitter. “These are the ones that you remember, a lot more than just 3 points. Mr @juanmata8 magic, just magic.”
Rooney, who has not found the net at Anfield since 2005 also suggested that perhaps he should have allowed the little Spaniard take the penalty. He also praised United supporters on the evening for their support.
