Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that new signing Granit Xhaka’s disciplinary record is a cause of concern for him ahead of North London derby.
The 24-year old who has signed from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer has found his feet at his new club in no time as he impressed well in the outings he had and became a fan favorite in no time.
He has scored four goals for Gunners already and have been dominant in the defensive midfield. His long range passing and shooting has added more threat to Arsenal’s attack that the team has lacked last season.
However, the 24-year old has failed to replicate a similar performances discipline wise as he was sent off against the game with Swansea City where Gunners battled with 10-men. He was eventually suspended for three games domestically.
But the most alarming stat of the Swiss midfielder is that he has raked up 8 red cards for both club and country since April 2014 which is the problem for the club at the moment despite his stellar performances.
The talented midfielder has started against Ludogorets in the Champions League and has scored the opener in their comeback from 0-2 to 3-2. He remains pivotal for the Gunners this season who looked solid in the back and venomous in the attack.
When Arsene Wenger was asked if the midfielder would start against Tottenham after his good display against Ludogorets, the manager gave no assurances as he feels the Swiss international should improve his discipline.
‘I’ve no specific idea what I’ll do (with the starting XI) but i am concerned (with his discipline) yes,’ he said.
‘Discipline is important and we want to be effective in the situations we face in a derby.
‘I think he’s quite a composed and calm guy, sometimes on the field the reaction is a bit impulsive. He needs to work on that and his control in the game.’
