A sensational hat-trick from Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal to thrash West Ham United by 5-1 as they moved to the second position in the league table.
Needing a win to leapfrog Manchester City (who lost to Chelsea earlier on the evening) and Liverpool (who will play on Sunday), Arsene Wenger’s men began the game in fine fashion as Mesut Ozil fired them to lead in the 24th minute. Alexis Sanchez was denied in the 36th minute as the Gunners went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Slaven Bilic’s men were looking more composed after the break and threatened to equalise before Sanchez doubled Arsenal’s lead with a brilliant finish in the 72nd minute. Eight minutes later, he doubled his goal tally with a low strike into the corner, before Andy Carroll pulled one back for the home team. But West Ham’s hopes of making a miraculous comeback was ended soon when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored Arsenal’s fourth goal just after a minute of Carroll’s goal. Sanchez capped off a fine night by scoring his hat-trick in the 86th minute.
With this win, Arsenal are now unbeaten in 13 league games and are just 3 points shy of table-toppers Chelsea.

Wonderful performance from @Alexis_Sanchez.
I wasn't convinced he was a true, No9 centre-forward.

Shkodran Mustafi is unbeaten in his first 16 games for Arsenal. Only Bacary Sagna (17 games) had a longer unbeaten start at the club. #afc pic.twitter.com/6sxf53ESj3
