Premier League side West Ham United are closing in on signing AC Milan striker Alessandro Matri, according to imminent Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
In his own website, Di Marzio stated that the Italian striker who has been at AC Milan since 2013 might move to the Premier League club this season on loan.
Alessandro Matri is currently in his second spell with Milan. The 31-year-old actually started his career in the Milan club‘s youth teams almost 20 years ago. He only made a handful of first -team appearances before joining Cagliari in 2007, but returned to his footballing roots in 2013 via a two-season stint at Juventus.
However, the Italian international only spent half a season back at the San Siro before heading out on loan to Fiorentina and later Genoa.
Matri then spent the second half of last season back with Juventus, featuring occasionally as the club completed a domestic league and cup double, as well as reaching the Champions League final.
His goalscoring record over the last few years isn’t exactly sensational, but he’s certainly a reliable option and often seems to find the net when handed regular playing opportunities, as his first spell in Turin would suggest – 29 goals in 69 Serie A appearances.
The 31-year-old striker has just played seven times for the Italian international side and scored just one goal. He has won 3 Italian Serie A titles, twice Super Copa Italiana titles and one Coppa Italia title last season.
West Ham United have already signed 6 players this season to bolster their squad, the biggest signing being Dimitri Payet. They went off to a flying start in this season as they had defeated giants Arsenal in the season opener 2-0.
