West Ham United vs Arsenal: Preview, Predictions, Expected Lineups and Betting Odds

After being knocked out of the League Cup in front of their home crowd, Arsenal will face a London derby this weekend as they travel to the Olympic Stadium. The Hammers were also knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester United and are currently struggling in the league. They are in desperate need of some points but the Gunners are in decent form and are expected to give the Hammers a run for their money.

Slaven Bilic will know a draw at Old Trafford can get his team to believe in themselves and will hope to give Wenger’s side a scare this weekend. Here is the preview of this game, along with the team news, predicted lineups, predictions and betting odds:

The West Ham United vs Arsenal game will be played on Saturday, December 3. The kickoff is scheduled at 5:30 pm BST (11:00 pm IST)

Team News:

West Ham manager has a few injuries to worry about ahead of the game. Andre Ayew, Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio all picked up injuries during the week and will be assessed just before the game. Diafra Sakho is out for six months, giving Bilic more headache.

Wenger has his own fitness problems with Mathieu Debuchy joining Hector Bellerin in the injury list. Santi Cazorla is set for a surgery and is not expected to play this year while Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck remain long term absentees.

Expected Lineups:

West Ham United:

Randolph; Kouyate, Collins, Ogbonna; Antonio, Obiang, Noble, Cresswelll; Lanzini, Payet, Feltcher

Arsenal:

Cech; Jenkinson, Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal; Coquelin, Xhaka; Walcott, Ozil, Iwobi; Sanchez

Key Battles:

Alexis Sanchez vs James Collins:

The former Barcelona man has thrived in a false-9 position this season and is the highest goal scorer for the Gunners in the domestic league. He is an impact player and will be up against James Collins from West Ham. Collins has done a decent job this season but he’ll have to be at his very best if his side are to take anything from this game.

Dimitri Payet vs Laurent Koscielny:

In an all-French battle, Dimitri Payet and Laurent Koscielny will up against each other this weekend as both players fight for supremacy. The West Ham attacker has been in decent form but Koscielny has been solid at the back this season and will be expected to get the better of the attacker on the night.

Key Stats:

West Ham were unbeaten against Arsenal last season (W1 D1), something they hadn’t done since 2006/07.

The Gunners didn’t lose any of their final eight league trips to Upton Park (W6 D2).

West Ham have let in two or more goals in each of their last seven home Premier League games against Arsenal.

Arsenal have conceded five goals across their last two league meetings with West Ham; as many as they had in their previous nine beforehand.

Theo Walcott has scored five goals against West Ham in the Premier League; the most against any opponent he has faced.

West Ham have lost 25 Premier League games against Arsenal; their joint-most against a single opponent in the competition along with Man Utd.

Dimitri Payet has created 46 chances in the Premier League this season, at least 11 more than any other player.

Arsenal’s last nine Premier League goals against West Ham have all been scored by different players (Koscielny, Sánchez, Özil, Flamini, Ramsey, Giroud, Welbeck, Cazorla and Podolski).

West Ham have dropped more points from winning positions this season than any other Premier League side (10).

Olivier Giroud has been involved in more Premier League goals from the bench than any other player this season (three goals, one assist).

Arsenal have been trailing for just 73 minutes in Premier League matches this season; fewer than any other team.

Betting Odds:

West Ham United: 19/5

Draw: 3/1

Arsenal: 3/4

Predictions:

Playing away from home, the Gunners might find it difficult against a physically imposing West Ham side but they have been in tremendous form early this season and are expected to make light work of the opponents on the night. However, a draw at Old Trafford might help the Hammers build some confidence and make things tough for the Gunners.

Our Prediction: West Ham United 2-2 Arsenal
