Will Wenger's search for striker end with Manchester United's Anthony Martial? 1

In what can easily be the story of the transfer window, star Manchester United striker is linked with a shock move to Arsenal.

Manchester United managed to get their hands on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the best strikers in the world to lead their attacking line next season.

He was handed his number at the Old Trafford outfit late last week and rumours started that it angered one Manchester United player.

Anthony Martial, who wore the number 9 jersey for United last season was given the no.11 jersey as Zlatan Ibrahimovic was handed the no.9 and this has reportedly gone down badly with the French star.

But that is just a part of the bizarre story run by one of the English dailies.

Daily Star ran a story revealing that Anthony Martial is unhappy to lose his number to the new striker and is said to be unhappy staying at the club.

It was revealed that he posted a picture with his number 9 t-shirt on Twitter after being assigned the no.11 and that he later unfollwed the Manchester United official account on the social website.

Mohamed Bouhafsi, the chief editor of RMC sport tweeted: “Bad taste, tact, consideration from Manchester United who gave the No. 9 to Ibrahimovic without an agreement with Martial.”

This seemed to have got the attention of the French starlet who is reportedly looking for a way out of the club.

And without any surprises, the bookies made the Gunners the favourite to sign him and have slashed the price from 9/1 to just 11/2. (odds from Ladbrokes)

The likes of PSG and Chelsea (16/1) are also linked with a move for the French star. Moves to Manchester City and Liverpool were completely written off.

Ladbrokes News spokesman Dave Burin said: “Martial’s shirty response to being ousted as #9 could be the first step on the path to an Old Trafford exit, and Arsene Wenger could be the man to welcome him with open arms.”

However, it didn’t take long for the 20-year old to get back to following his club on twitter but the odds remain the same and this story seems to be catching the attention of fans around the world.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker and will do anything to get their hands on someone of Martial’s calibre but it is hard to see them get their hands on the star striker just because of a change in his shirt number at Old Trafford.

Martial will be wearing the number 11 jersey next season for the Red Devils.

Do you think there is any chance of Martial leaving United this summer?
