Willian Explains Why Oscar is Leaving Chelsea For Shanghai SIPG

Antonio Conte became the first coach in Chelsea history to win 11 Premier League games in a row after Diego Costa’s 13th goal of the season gave the leaders a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

All those victories have come following the Italian’s decision to switch to a 3-4-3 formation, and the man who suffered the most from that change is undoubtedly Oscar.

Back in 2014, ex-Blues and current Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho sold Juan Mata because he wanted to base his whole team around the Brazil international and felt that he was good enough to become the long-term future of the club.

However, having not started a single league game since September, Oscar is now set for a January move to Shanghai SIPG, where he will link up with former manager Andre Villas-Boas as well as compatriot Hulk.

Willian, who himself has had a tough few months dealing with the death of his mother and the plane crash killing 19 Chapecoense players, played 64 minutes of today’s clash at Selhurst Park and afterwards he spoke to ESPN Brazil.

Unlike Oscar, the 28-year-old winger is a firm part of Conte’s plans and he confirmed that his fellow Brazilian will leave Stamford Bridge for Asia and as well as explaining his teammate’s reasoning behind it.

“(Oscar) has already said goodbye,” Willian revealed. “He is a good friend who goes away, but we wish the best for him and his family as well.

“We know that the career of a player is a race, it ends quickly. So when the opportunity comes, we think about our family and make our footing stop when it stops, stop well.”

Earlier this week, Oscar confirmed that his move to China was “90% complete” and the proposed £52 million fee from Shanghai SIPG will make the 25-year-old the 16th most expensive player of all-time.

The talented attacking midfielder, who scored 38 times in 202 games for Chelsea, is expected to earn a salary which will make close to, or the actual highest-paid footballer in the world.

Meanwhile, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to reinvest the huge amount of money from the likely Oscar deal in next month’s transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Veratti reportedly identified as their top target.
