Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney to visit Kolkata to promote ISL

Another good news for Kolkata people and all the Indians came out today morning as the co-owner of Indian Super League franchise Atletico de Kolkata, legendary former cricketer Sourav Ganguly has claimed that Manchester United and England national team captain Wayne Rooney will visit Kolkata as a part of Indian Super League promotion.

Football fans are already going crazy in Kolkata that, football icon Brazilian three-time World cup winner Pele will be visiting Kolkata in the month of October and the former Indian Cricket team captain gave them even more reasons to be joyous.

Pele will be present for the reigning ISL champions Atletico de Kolkata’s first home game of the season against Kerala Blasters on October 13 at the Salt Lake stadium and will fly to Kolkata on 11th. Kolkata people may be able to see another superstar after just one month according to ‘Dada’

There is no official confirmation from ISL committee so far, but Ganguly said as quoted by one of the leading newspapers in India, The Telegraph, “Rooney will be coming here as part of the ISL, so it will not just be about Pele.”

Manchester United do not have any match between November 8 to 20 but Rooney will have international duty as the captain of the Three Lions and that too against two giants of Europe, Spain on 13th and France o 17th. It is not clear that how Rooney will make himself available to fly all the way to the City of Joy during that time.

Pele will participate in a conversation with Ganguly during a charity dinner and Dada is excited about that. He said, “Let’s see, let me meet him first.”

This is not Pele’s first visit to Kolkata. He last visited the city in September 1977, playing in an exhibition match for Cosmos against Mohun Bagan.

Ganguly, an ardent fan of Argentine legend Diego Maradona was again quoted to say that, Maradona is still his all-time favourite and meeting Pele will not change that.

Rooney recently broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s record for England by becoming the top scorer with 50 international goals to his name and have  a huge fanbase in India thanks to his playing time for Manchester United and fans will hope that the iconic striker visits Kolkata.

If Rooney comes to Kolkata, a new name will be added to the list of legends who visited Kolkata. Many big names are already there Pele, Diego Maradona, Karl- Heinz Rummenigge, Lionel Messi, Oliver Kahn, Diego Forlan and Gerd Muller.
