Paul Pogba has been a Chelsea target ever since he burst onto the scene with Juventus and has been arguably the most important player for the club over the last couple of seasons. His performances have merited interest from all the major clubs in Europe including Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich amongst others and he would be the most sought out player in the summer as he looks to be available according to what his agent Mina Raiola has been preaching over the last few transfer windows.
Chelsea had been in the driving seat for the Frenchman as they tested the Old Lady’s resolve over the summer with a bid upwards of 50 million for the player who left Manchester United for free to join Juve. His pursuit was expected to be resumed by the Blues as the window opens and will continue over the summer as Chelsea look to him as the long term answer for their current midfield problems and will look to spend heavily to reinforce the aging squad as they look to reclaim their title next season.
In comes Zinedine Zidane for Real Madrid and Chelsea’s plans now have a major roadblock as Zidane is attempting to convince the Juventus hierarchy to accept an exclusive deal with Los Blancos over Pogba’s departure and is using his contacts with the Turin club, where he is a revered legend, to help him in his endeavours. Also the fact that Zidane is a national hero for France, the nation which Pogba currently represents make him more inclined to join the club with a record 10 European Cup wins as they themselves look to strengthen next summer and improve their plight with respect to the La Liga titles.
This will come as a heavy blow for Chelsea who were rejoicing the fact that Barcelona couldn’t take part in Pogba’s transfer over the summer and were hoping for a clear shot at the impressive youngster to acquire his sought after services over the next summer.
