Zlatan Ibrahimovic Could Face Three Game Ban After Elbow Incident
Manchester United’s striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could face a three game ban after elbowing Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings after a disappointing 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The 35-year old has used his elbow in the box against Mings and the incident could be reviewed from footage on Monday which could land him in a three match ban for violent conduct.
Meanwhile, Mings could also face a three game suspension as he stamped his foot in the face of Zlatan earlier in the game. The referee had not noticed the severity of the incident which served as the trigger for the Swede’s retaliation.
“You can see the TV and the images,” Ibrahimovic said. “In my situation, I jump up, I jump high, at the same time I protect myself and it’s unlucky he jumps into my elbow. On many occasions these things happen and I hope he didn’t get injured. What happens on the field stays on the field, I’m not a player who will talk afterwards or attack somebody.”
However, Ming’s has revealed that he had not done it on purpose. He has also downplayed the elbow incident with Zlatan.
“Not at all, I would never do that,” he said. “Hard and fair is how I like to tackle but I don’t get involved in off the ball stuff.” Of the elbow incident, Mings said: “It was maybe an elbow, I didn’t see it but I felt it.”
Meanwhile, Mourinho was quick to point out that Mings knows what he did against Zlatan in the incident.
“If you ask me that I am happy if Tyrone Mings gets three or four or five matches ban, I really don’t care about it,” the United manager said.
“He knows what he did, he knows better than anyone what he did.”
Zlatan, who had missed a crucial penalty in the 1-1 draw, has taken the complete blame on him for dropping two points.
“Of course when you don’t win the game with the opportunities we had but I take the blame, I should have scored, absolutely, I had a goodchance with the penalty,” he said. “I give myself the fault.”
