The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might have thumped Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 8 in the ongoing IPL 2023, but they have lost the services of swing bowler Deepak Chahar and all-rounder Ben Stokes due to their respective injuries.

The 30-year-old Chahar, who was signed by the four-time champions for INR 14 crores, missed the majority of the cricketing season in 2022 including the IPL 15 due to a back injury that he incidentally developed while recovering from a right quadriceps injury he sustained while representing India in February of last year.

Chahar felt some discomfort after bowling five balls in the first over against MI and called on physio Andrew Simsek for diagnosis. However, he struggled to bowl the last ball and went off the field straight after and took no part in the game further.

Chennai Super Kings informed that Chahar will undergo scans to identify the extent of the injury once the team returns to Chennai.

Ben Stokes Set To Miss IPL 2023 Action For CSK After Toe Injury

Not only Deepak Chahar but England all-rounder Ben Stokes has also been reportedly ruled out of action for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after injuring himself.

Chennai Super Kings confirmed that the England Test captain who sat out the game against Mumbai Indians has suffered a toe injury and will not be available for CSK’s next game against Rajasthan Royals (April 12) at home.

The report suggested that Stokes might make his return to action for CSK in the away fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 17.

CSK also had Moeen Ali missing the marquee fixture on Saturday with a case of food poisoning. The off-spinning all-rounder, however, is expected to be fit and available for the team’s next game.

After losing the IPL 2023 opener to Gujarat Titans, CSK continued their winning ways with their latest victory coming over rivals MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Thanks to Ajinkya Rahane’s whirlwind half-century, CSK blew away the MI set target of 158 runs with 7 wickets in hand.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja’s 3/20 and two wickets each from Mitchell Santner and Tushar Deshpande had restricted MI to 157/8 with Ishan Kishan (32) and Tim David (31) being the main scorers.
