MS Dhoni is currently captaining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2023 and many feel that it is perhaps his final outing in the tournament given that he is 41 years old and retired from international cricket in 2020.
Dhoni last played for India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand and the last time he played for India was in an ODI against Australia in Ranchi, the same year. However, he has continued to play for CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and even won the IPL in 2021, giving the yellow army their fourth title.
Preparing the team for the time after he retires, Dhoni relinquished CSK’s captaincy before the start of IPL 2022 and handed over the baton to his main man Ravindra Jadeja. But things went haywire for CSK as neither could Jadeja do justice to the role nor could he do well with his performances either with the bat or ball. Moreover, there was also seen when he dropped some easy catches, which proved that the all-rounder had been going through a lot of pressure.
But things are going decently for the four-time champions in IPL 2023 as Dhoni has led the team to two wins, while they have also lost as many games thus far.
There’s a Lot Of Time To Take That Call For Retirement: MS Dhoni
Many CSK fans have made up their minds and have gotten the idea that MS Dhoni might not play in the next edition of the tournament. Even Dhoni had said that he couldn’t say goodbye without playing in front of the crowd, especially in Chennai, after it was announced that IPL 2023 will go back to home and away format.
While attending an event along with members of the CSK fraternity, Dhoni was asked a question about his retirement plans, to which he responded in a quirky manner saying:
“There’s lot of time to take that call (Retirement). Right now we have a lot of games and the coach will be under pressure if I say something.”

After the 41-year-old’s sarcastic reply, it is only Dhoni who knows the slightest of information about his future with the franchise, and only time will tell what is to come next.
