The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2023 match which was to be played in Lucknow on May 4 has been preponed to May 3rd and will be played from 3 pm in the afternoon, reports suggested.
This has been done due to municipal elections which will be conducted in the city on May 4th. While there is no official communication on the preponement of the game, the BCCI has informally told the teams that the match could be held a day in advance.
“There could be issues with regards to security deployment as Lucknow Municipality goes to polls on Thursday, May 4. LSG’s game against CSK is a mid-week afternoon game at 3:30 pm. Now the game could be played a day earlier, Wednesday, May 3 at the same time,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.
LSG Will Look To Get One Back On CSK After Losing Their First Encounter In Chennai
Notably, the two sides have already met once in the IPL 2023, when Chennai Super Kings hosted Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chidambaram stadium in Chennai, in what was their first home game since 2019.
CSK was asked to bat first after LSG captain KL Rahul had won the toss. Thanks to 57 from Ruturaj Gaikwad and his quick 79-run partnership with Devon Conway in powerplay put CSK in a good position, while New Zealand fell for 47 off 29 balls.
In the middle overs, CSK saw a slowdown with Shivam Dube (27), Ben Stokes (8), and Moeen Ali (19) falling for cheap. But then Ambati Rayudu (27* in 14 balls) and MS Dhoni 12 in 3 balls, including 2 sixes off Mark Wood, pushed CSK to 217/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, though Kyle Mayers smashed a 22-ball 53, CSK bowlers, especially Moeen Ali with 4/26 were able to withstand some onslaught from Nicolas Pooran (32 in 18) and Ayush Badoni (23 in 18), as LSG managed 205/7 and lost the match by 12 runs.
