During his 43-month exile from the ring, Ali mesmerized the stage in a title role of the musical “Buck White.” The production opened at New York’s George Abbott Theatre on December 2, 1969, but Ali’s stage career remained a brief one. “Buck White” had to be closed four nights later after only seven performances. Despite the limited opportunity, Ali, who played a militant black lecturer, received some decent reviews.
