Finally after some deep love with Bronze medals, Indian contingent managed to get their hands on Gold, courtesy men’s compound team archers. The Indian trio of Abhishek Verma, Sandeep Kumar and Rajat Chauhan, created the biggest upset in Asian Games 2014 as they defeated the world champions and host South Korea to take the gold medal. The Indian team bagged 2nd gold for the country after Jitu Rai’s sole gold won on Day 1.

The Indian side looked unbeatable throughout the event as they had set-up a final date with South Korea after it beat Iran 231-227 in the semi-finals. But in the finals, the trio looked to settle for nothing but the gold. Right from the start of the event, the Indian team led over South Korean with 55-54 lead at the end of series 1, 113-110 at the end of series 2, 171-169 at the end of series 3. They won the match 227-225.
Earlier today, Indian trio of Trisha Deb, Purvasha Sudhir Shende, Jyothi Surekha Vennam beat Iran to win the bronze medal in the compound women team event. Playing the bronze medal match at Jin ulcer Asiad Stadium, India took the lead over Iran comprising of Sakineh Ghasempour, Maryan Ranjbarsari and Shabnam Sarlak, right from the first series with 28-24 lead.
With this twin medal in Archery, India jumped to 11th from 16th in the medal table. India’s medal tally now has a total of 19 medals which includes 2 golds, 2 silvers and 15 bronze.
