25-year-old Rami Anis was already enjoying a status of an internationally competitive swimmer in Syria during the start of the war and he was forcefully enrolled in the army at the age of only 20. He and his family then sought refuge in Istanbul, Turkey, and finally his family crossed to Greece on a rubber boat. Then they had to travel for 10 long days and nights without even proper food through Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany, before finally reaching in Belgium, where they have now settled.
