Andy Murray digs deep to overcome the Frenchman Giles Simon and beats him 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-0 and sends Great Britain into Davis cup semi-finals for the first time in 34 years. Murray struck 7 aces and 49 winners and converted seven of his 15 break points and emerged victorious.

“The whole weekend has been fantastic. This team has done amazing things. We’re punching above our weight and we’re into the semi-finals of the biggest team competition in tennis,” said Murray, who is 22-2 in Davis Cup singles play.

Great Britain will face Australia in the semi-finals and Murray said” “I hope we will do well in September. It should be a great match. Australia have got a lot of experience with Lleyton Hewitt. It will be a very, very difficult match.”

Great Britain captain Leon Smith said: It’s incredible how Murrray finds a way to dig as deep as he can. It is phenomenal what he finds within himself. I was sitting there thinking this is why he does the hard work, those moments when he digs into his dark places of training and he finds a way to do it because his legs and his heart have been conditioned to do it, and he does it better than anyone. I have nothing but immense respect. There is something special when you’re playing for your country. It means much more.

Bottom line: Great Britain defeats France 3-1, faces Australia in the Semi-Finals
