Asian Champions Trophy: India Through To Final Despite Loss To China 1

The Indian women’s hockey team lost to China 3-2 in their last group game of the Asian Champions Trophy. The win helped hosts China top the group.

In the first two quarters, both teams tried their best to score. India got two penalty corners but could not convert any of these chances into goals. At the end of first two quarters, both teams were tied 0-0.

In the third quarter, Yang Chen scored a field goal to give hosts 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. The Indian team tried their best to level the scores but could not do it. At the end of third quarter, China maintained their 1-0 lead.

The hosts began the fourth quarter on a positive note as Qiu Guo scored a goal in the sixth minute to make it 2-0. In the very next minute, India fought back with a penalty corner from Poonam and reduced the gap to 1-2. In the 10th minute, Vandana Katria scored an equalizer. Just two minutes before full-time, China earned the penalty corner and converted the shot into a goal to the take the lead. India hardly had any time to equalize as China registered a 3-2 win to top the table.

India will now meet the same opponent in the final and will have a chance to take revenge if they plan well.
