Betrayed Indian Boxer Laishram Sarita Devi breaks down during medal ceremony of the women’s 55 Kg category where Sarita was robbed off her bout as the judges gifted the bout in favour of the Korean. As a result of this, Sarita was made to settled for Bronze medal. Today, in the medal ceremony, Sarita refused to receive the Bronze medal, then takes it and went to the Korean opponent, gave it to the Korean to whom which she unfairly lost to in the semi-finals.
It appears the Korean offered her silver medal to Sarita which Sarita refused. And in the end, Sarita has left her own medal on the podium before leaving.
The controversy took place in the third round as the Indian battered Park with her punches but Judges B and C awarded the round 10-9 in favour of the host fighter while Judge A gave the round 10-9 to Sarita.
Reports also said the Indian boxer had to borrow money from a journalist to lodge her protest against the decision since officials from the Indian Olympic Association chose not to involve themselves in Sarita’s case.
