Australia, Belgium and Argentina have booked their place in the Davis cup semi-finals. Earlier today Australia registered a historic 3-2 victory over Kazakhstan in Darwin.

Sam Groth and Lleyton Hewitt were the two Australians in action today and they defeated the Kazakhstan pair and moved into the semi-finals. This is the first time since 1939 where Australia are coming back trailing 0-2 and reaching the Davis cup semi-finals. Sam Groth faced Mikhail Kukushkin in four sets 6-3, 7-6(6),4-6,7-6(6). The Australian managed to hit 31 aces were as Kukushkin managed to hit just 5 aces.

Groth had a impressive break point conversion of 50 % to Kukushkin’s 10 % and maintained a decent first serve percentage of 64. On the other quarter-final clash the veteran Australian Lleyton Hewitt took on Aleksandr Nedovyesov and the Australian managed to win in straight sets 7-6(2),6-2,6-3. Statistically Nedovyesov bettered Hewitt in all aspects except the break point conversion where the Australian managed to convert 5 of them which resulted in a straight sets victory. Australia awaits the winner of Great Britain and France clash.

 

 

Argentina and Belgium will go head to head in the semis and will be eyeing to make history. The Argentinian pair Leonardo Mayer and Federico Delbonis recorded victory against the Serbian pair Viktor Troicki and Filip Krajinovic. The Belgium pair David Gofin and Steve Darcis registered victory against Frank Dancevic and Filip Peliwo. Both the teams registered 3-0 victory over their oppositions. The semi-final clash between these two teams would be an exciting contest in the offering.
