Australian Open Series: Saina Nehwal and Srikanth into quarter finals

On the 2nd day of competition, Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth progressed into the quarterfinals in men’s and women’s section respectively earlier today . Tanvi Lad and Sameer Verma knocked out of the tournament.

Saina Nehwal took on Goh JW. Saina Nehwal looked in dominating form defeating her in two straight games 21-12, 21-14 to progress into the quarter-finals of the tournament. She will face Thailand player R Inatnon.

In the men’s section K Srikanth took on Kuncoro. K Srikanth played an aggressive game and did not allow his opponent any space in the game. K Srikanth defeated the Indonesian opponent by  21-19, 21-12 to progress into the quarter-finals. He will face Heo KH of Korea in the quarterfinals.

Sammer Verma took Ginting. Sameer Verma started on a positive note by winning the first game 21-11. After that, Verma lost his focus by losing the next two sets by 7-21 and 19-21. It was an excellent performance by Verma.

Another Indian player Tanvi Lad was no match to Chinese player Wang Yihan. Tanvi Lad played a spirited game by losing the first by 19-21 and in the second set, Wang dominated Lad winning the set 21-6.

Saina Nehwal will play her best game to beat Inatnon while K Srikanth looks in good form after coming back from a break. Hope that both these players can perform well tomorrow and gain confidence before Rio Olympics.
