On the semi-finals day of the Australian Open Super Series, it was a mixed day as K Srikanth lost to Vittighnus in two straight games. Saina Nehwal played a dominating game and defeated Wang Yihan in two straight games to book a place in the finals.
K Srikanth took on Denmark Vittinghnus. In the first game, both players started taking 2 points each and continued to take alternate points till 6-6. At the mid-game interval, the Denmark player led 11-8. After the interval, the Denmark player continued to play an aggressive game and took a 17-13 lead. Srikanth came back well into the match and equalled the score at 17-17 and then took the lead for the first time. The Denmark player took the first set 22-20. In the second game, both players took 3 points each. Vittinghus played aggressive badminton and took an 11-6 at the interval. After the interval, the Denmark player continued to dominate and won the second set 21-13 easily.
In the women’s section Saina Nehwal took on Chinese Wang Yihan. In the first game, Saina dominated Wang right from the start as Saina looked in excellent form. She took an 8-1 lead. At the interval, Saina Nehwal took an 11-2 lead. After the interval, Saina continued to dominate her and won the first set 21-8. In the second game too, Saina looked in total control and took a 10-3 lead. At the interval, Saina led 11-5. After the interval, Wang tried her best as Saina won the second set 21-12.
Saina will face Sun Yu in the finals tomorrow.
