Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has gone on trial after being charged with adultery as a man claimed that the 30-year old illegally married his wife, lawyers confirmed the development.
Nasir Hossain, who played 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is for Bangladesh, married flight attendant Tamima Sultana on Valentine’s Day last year. However, his first husband claimed that she is still married to him and filed charges of adultery against Nasir.

“Tamima has forged divorce documents and postal receipts to show that she was no longer married with Rakib,” Rakib’s lawyer Ishrat Hasan said.
In Bangladesh, only men can be tried for adultery but women can’t. If found guilty, Nasir Hossain could face a punishment of 7 years in jail.
However, Farid Uddin Khan, who is representing both Hossain and his wife is pretty sure that the pair will be found not guilty. He said that the court could record the testimony of witnesses from March 10.
“Adultery cases are rare. Usually, it’s tough to prove. We are confident these charges cannot be proved,” he said.
Both of them are currently out on bail.
Nasir Hossain last played an international game, was against Sri Lanka in January 2018.
In his career, Nasir Hossain played 19 Tests and he scored 1044 runs with an average of 34.80 which included one hundred and 6 fifties. He scored a hundred against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2013. With the ball, he also picked 8 wickets in Test matches.

In the 50-over format, he represented Bangladesh 65 times and he scored 1281 runs with an average of 29.11 which included one hundred and 6 fifties. He also chipped in with the ball as he picked 24 wickets with an economy of 4.71.
In the T20I format, he played 31 matches and scored 370 runs as he picked 7 wickets.
He represented Rangpur Division in Bangladesh’s domestic first-class cricket last year. However, no franchise showed any interest in him in BPL 2022.
