Bernardo Silva has raised doubts over the selection of the PFA Premier League team of the season which bears more Liverpool players than Manchester City who won back-to-back titles. While only three from City featured in the eleven picked up by PFA, Liverpool had six represent them on the roster.
Silva, along with teammates Kevin de Bruyne and Joao Cancelo were the only ones picked from the champions’ team for the team of the season. On the other hand, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all made the cut from Liverpool. Barnardo Siva has now spoken up about the weird selection ‘six’ Reds’ players to City’s ‘three’.

Bernardo Silva says ‘no sense’ in Liverpool making up half of the team of the season
Bernardo Silva made it to the PFA Premier League team of the season for a second time in his City career after the 2018/19 season. After a quite first-half of the season, he dazzled for the second-half leading City to their fourth league title in five years. Silva featured in 35 league games for City, scoring 8 goals and further providing 4 assists.
Kevin de Bruyne racked up 15 goals and 8 assists, while Cancelo’s 7 assists and astute defending earned him a place in the team as well. However, Bernardo Silva confess that it makes ‘no sense’ in having more Liverpool players than City in the team of the season. Talking to ESPN, he said:
“Checking the Premier League Team of the Year every year and we never have the most players. We don’t have the best manager, don’t have the best players, but we still win four Premier Leagues in five years. It just doesn’t make sense.”

While Silva has expressed his feelings, he may have a point here. Many of the City stars who were in some form last season were overlooked for the team of the season. Phil Foden, who won the Young Player of the Year award scored 9 goals and had 5 assists to his name went missing from the eleven. Further on, Riyad Mahrez amassed 11 goals and 5 assists, too was snubbed.
The midfielder further talked about his future, which at the moment is uncertain amidst his Barcelona links. Silva said: “I’ve always said that I’m happy here but I have no idea what’s going to happen. We’ll see, honestly. My relationship with the club is very honest. I’ve been open with them and they know what I want. If I stay, I’m very happy and I will always respect this club and give all my best. If not, it’s football and we’ll just see what happens.”
Bernardo Silva is wanted by the Catalans, after he too reciprocated the same feeling, However, Barcelona are yet to register their five new signings and it looks highly unlikely they land another. Silva could remain at the Etihad as a result, and dream of a move to Camp Nou next summer.
