Liverpool were in pursuit of Ibrahima Konate for months. It is official now, finally. Liverpool agreed a £36 million fee for Konate as per reports.
The 21 year old had been pretty impressive for his previous side RB Leipzig. He played for the German side for four consecutive years. He had been a target for a lot of sides as the youngster showed a lot of potential throughout his career so far.
Breaking: Liverpool Agree £36 million Fee For Ibrahima Konate
Liverpool had been struggling for a promising center back from the very moment Virgil Van Dijk got injured. Van Dijk is considered by many fans as the best defender in the world right now. His injury would make Liverpool make suffer was a known fact.
But Van Dijk was not the only defender Liverpool lost due to injury this season; Van Dijk’s partner Joe Gomez also picked up a scary looking injury during the International training session, and the third choice center back Joel Matip was out injured as well.
As replacements, Liverpool had to play Fabinho and Jordan Henderson on the center backs. They called up Nat Phillips (who picked up an injury recently too) who was pretty impressive. During the January transfer window, Liverpool signed two Central defenders; Ben Davies from Preston North End for a total fee of around £1 million and Ozan Kabak from Schalke 04 on loan.
They covered up the bruises of Liverpool’s defense temporarily but it was clearly understood that Liverpool needed a prolific center back more than anything right now.
The French U21 international Ibrahima Konate was on Liverpool’s radar for months. Without any doubt, the Malian Origin French player would be an amazing addition to the Liverpool squad. A tall bossy center back beside Van Dijk would be something Liverpool want more than anything right now.
But then comes the injury issues of Konate. He is an excellent player indeed but on the next page, he is quite injury prone as well, just like most of the recruits made by Jurgen Klopp. One thing that never could never be understood is Jurgen Klopp’s obsession with injury-prone players. Here is another example of that.
Konate faced a number of big injuries for almost every season. With Liverpool’s recent fitness record it is a big doubt if he would remain fit for a full season.
We hope the 21 year old will not get any more injuries and for the rest of his career, he will play the best football of his life.
