PV Sindhu upsets Li Xuerui in the 3rd round match at the BWF World Championship played at Jakarta just few moments ago. It was an excellent performance by Sindhu who played some excellent badminton. The match went to three sets and it was a mouthwatering clash.
Sindhu started well taking 2 points as Li hit out of base line. She continued to gather points slowly because of error by Li which was broken at 4-10 and Li could not hold the service because errors made Li. At the interval PV Sindhu led 11-4. Li earned her fifth point by a forceful shot after a short rally and sixth point by a gentle placement at nets. Seventh point was also earned through a big shot. Sindhu broke her service at 8 and progressed to her 14th point. Li came back into the rally for her 12th point. Sindhu forced ahead to 16-12 but Li came back with forceful game to take the score to 17-15. Lee came back to score her 16th point. Sindhu reached 19 due to Li hitting out and 20th point by extraordinary shot. Then a misjudgment of error cost her next point but Sindhu earned her winning point Li hit the shuttle in net to win 21-17.
In the second game Li earned the first point and second point because of Sindhu hitting out. She earned third point again as Sindhu hit it out. Sindhu came back to earn her second and third point. Then Lee progressed to 10th point by good mix of placement and shots. Sindhu did revive to 7 points and Li reached her 11th point and at interval she was leading 11-7.
After the break Li continued her good game earned a point. Sindhu earned her 8th point as Li hit her shot in the net. Next 2 points were earned as Li hit out both the times. Li got her next 2 points as Sindhu hit one in net another out of base line. Sindhu earned her 11th point as Li hit out again. Li earned next 3 points by good placements to take a lead of 18-12 raced to 19-13 again with some good placement and her 20th point through an excellent shot and won the last point and the game as Sindhu put the shuttle in net at 21-13.
In the deciding set, Li started serving and won first point as Sindhu hit the net and second through a good shot. Sindhu broke her service followed by a placement that was hit out to make it 2-2. Then Chinese girl earned her third point but hit out four times in a row giving Sindhu a lead of 6-3. Seventh and Eighth points were earned as Li put the shuttle in net. Li came back to score only one point but serve went out of base line. An excellent smash earned Sindhu her 10th point. Li did recover but Sindhu was sitting pretty at 11-6 by interval.
After the break Sindhu put the return of the serve in net but soon recovered with a great shot to lead 12-8. Next Li shot was forceful that was returned but went out. Another beautiful shot took Li to short by 2 points only. Next rally also ended in Li’s favor but next shot went out of base line. Another good rally ended as Sindhu hit out followed by another shuttle in net by Sindhu leveling the score at 13-13. Li took lead but soon, but was levelled by Sindhu. Sindhu earned her 15th point through hard hitting. She surged ahead as Li put the shuttle in net. Sindhu earned her 17th & 18th points as Li hit out again. Li covered one point but could not hold her service and. Sindhu raced to 19. Li came back with ice hit beyond the reach of the opponent. Li’s another wide hit took Sindhu to game point. Li did comment back earning one point but the last rally again was hit out. Sindhu won the game and match at 21-17 and upsetting the world no 3.
With this win PV Sindhu has entered into the quarter finals.
