India lost to Belgium 1-2 in their third match of the Champions Trophy 2016 tournament held in London just few moments ago. It was a spirited performance by a team who played excellent hockey, but could not get the desired result.
In the first quarter, the first real chance came in the 9th minute from Belgium as Gougnard hit the shot but it was well saved by Sreejesh and Walkmi. The Indian team attacked but could not yield any result. Both teams were trying to take the lead. In the 13th minute Belgium earned a penalty corner but could not convert into a goal. In the first quarter the scores were 0-0.
The second quarter began off to a positive start for India. In the 6th minute, Belgium was awarded a penalty corner but India reviewed it and the decision was reversed. In the 8th minute P Sreejesh made two back to back saves. Belgium earned their second penalty corner. In the 10th minute Belgium earned another penalty corner and Hendricks converted the penalty corner into the goal to give Belgium a 1-0. In the 12th minute Belgium earned another penalty corner but could not score. Before the hooter, India’s Devinder Walkmi scored the goal to level the score at 1-1. At the end of 2nd quarter the scores were level at 1-1.
The third quarter began off well by earning in the 1st minute. It was their 5th penalty corner but could not convert the penalty corner into the goal. In the 3rd minute India earned their first penalty corner and was well saved by the Belgium goal keeper. The Indian played excellent hockey in the next few minutes. In the 14th minute Truyens scored an excellent field goal to give Belgium a 2-1 lead. At the end of the 3rd quarter Belgium led 2-1.
In the fourth quarter, both teams good and attacking hockey, which was good to see. In the 8th minute Belguim earned another penalty corner but could not convert. In the next minute India appealed for a penalty corner but only got a free hit. The Indians tried hard but lost the match by 1-2. They had drawn against Germany and won against Great Britain before this match.
Their next match will be against Korea tomorrow. The Indian team is currently in the 3rd place.
