If Kings XI Punjab allrounder Chris Jordan had taken the short distance for completing the second run off the last ball against Mumbai Indians, the Indian Premier League (IPL) would not have witnessed two super overs in a game. He was heavily criticized for his running between the wicket as he took a wide arc at the non-striker’s end while also neglected the dive. But why Jordan has taken the long route?

In an interview with Wisden.com,  Chris Jordan revealed what happened to him, which forced the game to super-over. He stated that he lost his balance when he reached the non-striker end after completing the first run. According to him, he would have slipped and injured if he had not taken the long turn.

“I actually lost my footing on my turn at the non-striker’s end. If I’d tried to go back in the same direction, I definitely would have slipped up and fallen down.”

As for diving, Jordan said that the ball hit his foot on the way and it deflected due to which he could not dive.  After watching his mistake, Jordan admitted that the route he took to complete the second looked baffling.

With nine runs needed off the last over, Chris Jordan hit Trent Boult hit a boundary off his second ball. In the next ball, he went for a single followed by no run in the fifth ball. KXIP needed two runs off the last ball with Chris Jordan in Strike.

He hit the ball towards long-off and ran for the first run. He had ample time to complete the second run and finish the game. But he messed up. He took the long run to complete the second run with the apt thrown from Kieron Pollard. He was run out by inches. The match was tied with both the team scoring 176 runs in twenty overs.

At last, KXIP were declared winners after they won the second super over, chasing 12 runs.
