Could CM Punk returning to pro-wrestling be really happening? That’s the million-dollar question among the fans for the past five years. We may have received the most positive answer to the thought as the man in concern finally showed interest in it.
Rumors of the former WWE Champion coming back have always been there. But that became wild in recent times with AEW forming and WWE partnering with FOX.
CM Punk fuels up return rumors by removing merchandises
This is probably the first time that the former WWE Champion admitted that he wants to be back in pro-wrestling. CM Punk was recently promoting his latest film, Girl on the Third Floor, while on Barstool Sports’ My Mom’s Basement podcast. He discussed various topics including the inevitable portion where he has to give thoughts on his pro-wrestling return.
He admitted to being open on returning to a wrestling ring someday with the following comments, (courtesy wrestlingINC.com)
“For five years I’ve always been asked that question. No matter what I say, it gets reduced to clickbait and it gets warped. I’ve gone through some many iterations of people saying, ‘Oh, Punk hates wrestling.’ None of that was ever the case. I think I’ve always been open to it. My attitude has always been that I don’t see it happening. I think I’ve talked about it more recently, but my attitude hasn’t changed. People always ask what would it take to go back, and I say it would take a big bag. So people use their imaginations.”
When it comes to a returning angle for CM Punk, there could be a tug of war between WWE and the brand new rival in the form of All Elite Wrestling.
The former straight edge society leader commented on his preference by saying that it’s the wrestling organization that takes advantage of these comparisons. The constant speculation of the return gets the fans talking about the return as they create buzzes all over around,
“I actually think both companies, WWE and AEW, have used the fact that I’ve been whatever about it to kind of rope people in every now and again,” CM Punk continued. “To make people think I am coming back on a specific show at a specific time. Whenever a mystery opponent is announced they’ll think it is CM Punk. There is nothing wrong with them trying to do that. They texted me second-hand an offer and I was like ‘real offers only, please.'”
Meanwhile, WWE EVP of Talent Relations, Triple H also noted on this ongoing CM Punk return topic. During a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show alongside boxing Lineal Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, Hunter used the ‘never say never’ quote when the host asked about whether WWE is interested to bring him back. Check out The Game’s answer,
“That’s a ‘could be’. Vince will say it all the time: ‘We’re open for business’. The past is passed, today is today and you never say never in WWE.”
With CM Punk removing his merchandise from Pro Wrestling Tees, the rumors are running high whether he signed a new contract with the WWE or not.
He is coming back anyway for the WWE Backstage talk show on FOX in due course. This will apparently work as an inducer to move forward to a future WWE deal if the internet reports are to go by.
