It was a mixed day for the Indians shuttler’s at the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold earlier today. PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy and Sai Pranneth qualified into the 3rd round while Ajay Jayaram and doubles pair of Jwala Gutta/ Ponappa lost in the first round itself.
In the first singles match, HS Prannoy took on Lin Husan. In the first game, the match began with both players fighting for each point. At the interval, HS Prannoy led 11-10. After the interval, HS Prannoy continued to put pressure on Lin Husan and took the first game 21-19. In the second game, Chin Husan began off to a great start taking a 5-2 lead but HS Prannoy came back strongly to lead 11-7 at the interval. After the interval, HS Prannoy continued his domination over his opponent and won the second set 21-15 progressing into the third round.
Sai Pranneth took on Savatyugin. In the first game, Sai Pranneth looked in total control and never allowed his opponent to come back into the match. At the interval, Sai Pranneth led 11-6. After the interval, Sai Pranneth continued his domination and won the first set 21-11. In the second game, Sai Pranneth played some aggressive badminton. At the interval, Sai Pranneth led 11-4. After the interval, Sai continued his aggressive play and won the second set 21-8 easily progressing into the third round.
PV Sindhu took on Kim Hyo Mun. In the first game, Sindhu started off aggressively and never allowed her opponent to come back into the match. At the interval, Sindhu led 11-6. After the interval, Sindhu continued her domination and won the first set 21-13. In the second game, it was a neck to neck battle as both players fought for each point. At the interval, Sindhu led 11-10. After the interval the fight for each point continued but Sindhu held her nerves to win second set 22-20 and progressed into the second round.
Ajay Jayaram took on Lim Guipu. In the first game, Guipu began off to a great start taking a commanding 10-4 lead. At the interval, Guipu led 11-6. After the interval, Guipu was aggressive with his badminton and won the first set 21-11. In the second game, Guipu dominated and did not allow Jayaram to come back into the match. At the interval, Guipu led 11-8. After the interval, Jayaram tried to make a comeback but Guipu always put pressure on Jayaram and won the second set 21-17.
Jwala Gutta/Ponappa took on Fukushima and Hirota. In the first game, the Japanese pair began off well-putting pressure on the Indian pair. At the interval, the Japanese pair led 11-9. After the interval, Gutta/ Ponappa tried to come back into the match and Japanese pair won the first set 21-16. In the second game, the same trend continued where the Japanese pair dominated the Indian pair. At the interval, the Japanese pair led 11-8. After the interval, the Japanese pair put pressure on the Indian pair and won the second set 21-15 and knocked out of the first round.
