It takes hard work, determination, and a bit of luck to get success in WWE. While some easily get that, names like Deonna Purrazzo gets left out in the mix despite being one of the most natural athletic beauties of the female roster. She is one of the names who had a short stint with the WWE before getting released in the April’s trimming down of roster due to Coronavirus pandemic related budget cuts.
There’s more to the story behind her time in the WWE as revealed in a recent interview. After making only a few appearances as a WWE enhancement talent, Deonna Purrazzo was chosen to perform at All In pay-per-view in 2018 hosted by now known as All Elite Wrestling promotion. But just after getting shortlisted on the card, WWE offered her a contract offer and she ended up joining NXT instead of performing at All In.
Speaking with Wrestling Inc Daily podcast Deonna Purrazzo disclosed that it was probably WWE wanting to secure her at that time from outsider companies that they brought her to NXT. She wasn’t used properly at all during her two years in NXT. After a few one-off appearances, she was let go after spending two valuable years of her career. Here’s more from Deonna Purrazzo on her signing with WWE.
“I 100 percent feel like me being announced for All In… this culminated in, ‘she’s gonna go somewhere else and do something good with other people’ so we’re gonna bring her here. If they had done something with me, then that would have been fine. But I feel that in the last year or two with AEW, [WWE] tended to be hoarding. Talent wasn’t being released but so much talent was being brought in that I suffered from so many women coming in and then we’re all from the same background.” (Courtesy wrestlingINC.com)
Deonna Purrazzo continued saying that she came up with a ton of ideas for her character on NXT TV but all of those fell into deaf ears. The backstage attitude was like that one should be grateful for getting a job at NXT. They should be waiting for the right opportunity to get a role on TV. For a talent like Deonna Purrazzo, she didn’t want to sit out of the equation and thus ended up getting released.
Deonna Purrazzo added that a lot of talents felt the same way while being under contract with WWE. So getting released was the best option they could have possibly asked for.
“I know I felt that way and there’s a ton of people who felt that way. Ultimately, when all of these releases happened it was the people voicing frustration and maybe the idea that they didn’t wanna be here anymore if nothing was gonna happen. Maybe being released was the best option and I think that was the case with a lot of people that ended up being released.”
With Deonna Purrazzo leaving WWE, speculations were roaming around suggesting that she might be heading into All Elite Wrestling promotion. But two years ago, she rejected their offer. So could Purrazzo pulling out of All In to sign with WWE, be a bar if she wants to be a part of AEW? When asked about potential negotiations with AEW, this is what Deonna Purrazzo had to offer,
“I don’t know. I feel like there was probably some, ‘Oh, that sucks’ because I commit to doing All In and I actually tried to push my WWE signing date back so I could still do All In. But WWE wasn’t having it,” stated Purrazzo. “I have to pick and choose those battles but I don’t if it’s affected anyone negatively. That’s not anything I’ve heard or has stopped me from being friendly with people that work for AEW.”
Deonna Purrazzo stated that she’s ready to apologize to the team of AEW if that’s what needed to get on board with the WWE’s rival brand. She also regretted the decision considering how her WWE stint played out. As for AEW, they could make a big star out of Deonna Purrazzo who has huge fan following on social media.
She’s always updating scorching pictures of herself on Instagram which is a big reason behind this. For now, she has jumped ship to Impact Wrestling promotion and eyeing to become the new Knockouts Champion.
