Mary Kom, the five-time World Champion Indian boxer was in great anxiety after the earthquake in Manipur trebled the whole Imphal on Monday. And it also cracked the wall of ace boxer’s home in Imphal. Mary is in national preparatory camp in New Delhi for one and half week. The 32 year old boxer, expressing deep concern said over phone on Monday evening, “I could not just train today due to anxiety. I received my husband’s phone at 4.30 in the morning today and he informed me the whole Imphal was trembling. I was also listening over phone that my three children were crying. I became simply speechless and fearsome.”
Mary added informing that she wants to participate in the forthcoming SAFF games, scheduled to be held at the end of this month in Meghalaya. She said, “If I take part in the championship and earn gold medal then I have desire to donate the prize money for the earthquake affected people in my state. Even, I want to request other sports personalities of Manipur to donate their prize money if any of them becomes champion in their respective events in the SAF Games.”
Commenting on her preparation for the Rio Olympics, Mary clarified, “I have not yet earned the qualification for the Olympics. I have to earn medals in the two forthcoming qualification tournaments in Continental Cup and in the World Championship.” And in a bid to strengthen her preparation Mary has been taking help of a skilled male boxer from Air Force. She said, “I have been training with Mr Chotelal in the national camp. Fighting with him I am gaining more power and improving technique also.” The ace boxer earned bronze medal from the Olympics Test Event in Rio recently after having participated in a championship recently. She looked relieved saying, “I had an old shoulder injury. But after having taken part in the Test Event I realized that I am totally fit now.”
