As per reports, eight people were booked for alleged extortion and unlawful assembly after a brawl and for attacking Indian cricketer Prithi Shaw and his friend’s car after the cricketer refused to oblige for selfies them while dining in a hotel in Mumbai.
According to the complaint given by Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav, first, the car carrying Shaw was attacked with baseball bats, then the accused followed the car and threatened false cases if money was not given.
Oshiwara Police have booked the eight people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly and using weapons for offense (143, 148,149, 384, 437, 504, 506) after the incident.
As per the India Today report, Shaw had gone to a five-star hotel in Santacruz with his friends for dinner. He was approached by some people requesting selfies and Shaw obliged a few of them with the same.

However, the accused came back with more of their friends and demanded more selfies, to which Shaw refused saying he has come to eat food with friends and doesn’t want to be disturbed.
However, the people got aggressive with their demands and the manager of the hotel was called, who then asked them to leave the premises.

This incident angered them and when Shaw and his friend came out of the hotel after eating, some people were standing outside the hotel with baseball bats. Prithvi’s friend’s car, a BMW, was vandalized as the accused used baseball bats to smash the front and rear windows of the vehicle.
“The issue started in a luxury hotel in the early hours of the day after the six accused seeking selfies mobbed the cricketer, who obliged some and denied others when the requests became incessant. he accused got angry after the hotel manager asked them to vacate the premises. Soon the accused gave chase to a car in which they believed the cricketer was leaving the hotel. However, a friend of the cricketer was travelling in it,” Police official was quoted by PTI.

Shaw’s friend said that when his car was stopped at a petrol station in Jogeshwari, a lady came and said that she needs to be paid Rs 50, 000 if this matter is to be resolved otherwise, she will file false charges.
”Near Jogeshwari Link Road, the accused attacked the car and broke its windscreen. They also demanded Rs 50,000 as extortion for not naming the car occupant in a fake case. The car occupant drove to Oshiwara police station and registered a complaint,” he added.
The hotel staff took the names and contact numbers of people who had taken a selfie with Shaw and provided it to the police. The two were identified as Sana alias Sapna Gill and Shobhit Thakur.
